I’ve never had a huge issue with my teeth (except for the fact that they’re super spacey like a child’s lol) but I have pondered here and there about how to make them whiter. They’re not yellow, but they are sort of dull. Thankfully I was able to try an at home teeth whitening kit that compares to work done in your dentist office through Smile Brilliant!
Smile Brilliant! gives a teeth whitening kit complete with a step by step guide that literally gives you dentist quality results right in your own home! Here’s how it goes:
First, I took a before pic! As I said previously, not very white, not very yellow, just somewhere in the middle, like I imagine most people’s teeth are.
Then, I open up the box of goodies which included the following:
- 6 Impression materials
- 2 Teeth whitening trays
- Professional Teeth Whitening Gel
- Detailed Instructions (which is KEY for me because kits like this tend to intimidate me due to all the materials, but these instructions made everything SO easy!)
Once I opened everything, it was time to start creating my mold. I took the base and the catalyst (showed in the picture above) and mixed them together until it turned a solid blue color. I used that to fill in the top teeth mold. Then, I did the same for my bottom teeth!
Timing was extremely important in this process. I used a timer to make sure I created the mold without over mixing and I had to keep each mold in my mouth for 90 seconds each making sure the impressions came out clearly.
Following this I simply put the two molds in a prepaid envelope and shipped it off to the lab. After about a week and a half my trays were mailed back to me.
FUN FACT: When I got the trays, I was SO excited. The thought of having retainers was always so cool to me so this teeth whitening system gave me a taste of that and I loved it.
The steps that followed were very simple (and clear thanks to the instruction guide that was full of pictures to show what each step should look like). After brushing my teeth with only water, I placed a thin line of the whitening gel into the top tray and put it in the mouth then did the same with the bottom tray.
And then I palanced around my home laughing at the slight lisp the trays gave me! I kept them in my mouth for about 45 minutes the first, second, and third days just in case my teeth were sensitive. I increased the amount of time to about an hour in the days to follow.
After the teeth whitening gel set, I took it out and brushed my teeth (as normal), rinsed out my trays, and replaced them with the desensitizing gel for about 15-20 min. Once I was done with that I took the trays out and went to sleep (I usually do it at night before bed which is recommended).
Here are the results after 7 days of whitening. Pretty cool, huh? 🙂
Overall, I loved the results! I actually really enjoyed the process. It was simple yet fun. My only con was the fact that when the teeth whitening gel touched my gums, more specifically the roof of my mouth, it burned a bit. You know when you eat something hot and it burns the top of your roof? That’s how it felt. But, I was careful the times to that followed to make sure the gel was in the trays and I didn’t put more than necessary. I didn’t have that problem again after the first time!
