Vegan. Vegetarian. Pescatarian. Raw Vegan. Paleo. No-Carb. Low-Carb.
What the HECK should I eat?!
This was my dilemma for a majority of 2017 and then the “What The Health” documentary came out and that’s when all the real confusion began. After watching the documentary I was torn – mainly because of the way companies were prioritizing money over the health of Americans. I decided that I would try a vegan diet as a result of what I learned and…
I hated it! Ok, I’m exaggerating quite a bit but I mainly didn’t like using the “fake” food. I realized that nut cheeses (aka fake cheese) and the abundance of soy products was not my cup of tea. However, I did eat more vegetables and didn’t miss meat as much as I thought I would during the first week or so. Then I tried being a vegetarian. That wasn’t too bad but I cheated all the time with chicken and I kept eating seafood. After that, I decided to do what made me feel good when I was at my peak of healthiness in high school which was a high protein with low/no carbs. I chated all the time on that diet too.
It was all so frustrating. Do eat this. Don’t eat that. So many rules. So many stipulations. It was too hard. So, I did what I probably should’ve done to begin with.
Yup – one day I was driving and I had a super honest prayer/conversation with God and I asked Him what diet will work best for me. And I heard the answer so clearly.
And I knew immediately what it meant – no meat. Which ironically was what I was told about 10 years ago concerning the best diet for me. Go figure. In addition, I’m being very intentional about eating more vegetables and mindful about how many sugars and carbs I consume. There’s no real “rule” that I’m sticking to outside of eliminating meat which is pretty freeing and still leaves room for me to try loads of new recipes!
Through this whole mini journey, I’ve discovered a few things:
- God knows best. In all situations. In all areas. And I’ll save myself more time if I consulted with God before I go off and do what I want.
- Every diet isn’t for everyone.
- Do what works best for YOUR body
Now – I’d love to hear from YOU! What type of diet/lifestyle do you follow? What works best for your body?
